Pork and Plants started on the family farm of Ed and Joyce Kreidermacher. Ed raised hogs and Joyce had a passion for growing things. While not a full-fledged business for many years, customers just "visited" the Kredermachers for their vegatables and flowers. In 1985 Ed and Joyce realized they needed to expand and to do so, needed an official company name. Their daughter, Maria, joked, "You know pork & beans, just call it Pork & Plants!" And so the name stuck. Now Maria runs the business side of the greenhouse which has annuals, perennials, edibles, fall mums, poinsettias, Christmas trees and decorative items. Their son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Ann,  devote their time to organic endeavors which includes growing plants and raising Heritage Animals . Alternative Energy Solutions is the newest addition to the business which helps other growers and farmers save on heating costs through bio-mass boilers and pellets used to produce heat in greenhouses. Located 2.5 miles northwest of Altura, 20 miles west of Winona and 35 miles east of Rochester.
