About

The World is the only daily newspaper published on Oregon's South Coast. Based in Coos Bay, we focus intensely on serving local readers and advertisers, while participating in leadership of our community. The World traces its roots to The Coast Mail, first published in 1878. Various mergers and changes took place over the years, and by the mid-20th century, the paper was known as The Coos Bay Times. Legendary owner/publisher Sheldon Sackett changed the newspaper's name to The World in the 1960s. The World entered cyberspace in 1999 with its online edition, www.theworldlink.com. The World purchased the weekly Bandon Western World in 2003 and Reedsport's Umpqua Post the following year. Since 2005, all three have been published by Lee Enterprises, one of America's largest and most respected newspaper companies. Lee Enterprises is committed to being the leading provider of print and online news and advertising in each of its local markets. As part of that commitment, The World aggressively maintains its role as the South Coast's essential forum for local voices and viewpoints, both in print and online.
