Anne Harris, LMHP(Licensed Mental Health Practitioner) and CPC(CertifiedProfessional counselor) owns and operates the Encouragement Center. Anne has extensive experience as a play therapist working with children. This type of counseling provides children and families the opportunities to resolve behavioral problems. The Encouragement Center has a separate room just for Play Therapy where clients can use toys, art, and sand play to develop the strengths necessary to begin to resolving problems and learn more effective ways of interacting with others. Play therapy will help your child become responsible for behaviors, develop respect for others and learn new social and relational skills within the family. Parents and caretakers are an important asset to the successful outcome of the play therapy process. They are emotionally connected to the child and problem behaviors, and are the main support system for the child. I take the time to interview parents and caretakers since they possess the most information and insight into a child's environment. I also offer help about more effective parenting skills. As a therapist I can work with the parents or caretakers in developing a plan to resolve issues as they arise. Play therapy teaches accountability and creates a safe environment. Clients learn that choices are connected to consequences. Play therapy also helps your child become responsible for behaviors, develop respect for others, and learn new social skills.
