About

Gathering of L-19 Birddogs at Plum Island 2B2 airport on Saturday Newburyport – Plum Island Aerodrome will host a gathering of veteran L-19 Birddogs on Saturday, Sept. 15, beginning at 10 a.m. They were developed by Cessna as liaison aircraft for the Korean War and later on used as frontline air control in Viet Nam. Other vintage Tail draggers and Convention geared aircraft will join them. The event is sponsored by Plum Island Aerodrome, Inc. and Squadron 7 Warbirds. A Pancake breakfast will be available for early birds. The Squadron will put on an old fashioned New England Clambake open to the public, starting at noon for a donation of $20. Plum Island Airfield is a small, public-use airport that has historical significance as the birthplace of aviation in New England and is the second airport to be opened in the U.S. The aerodrome houses the Burgess Aviation Museum in the newly constructed hangar, where classic and antique aircraft are restored.
