I went in with a dilema, my current wedding set was causing a reaction on my finger. The owner (jeweler) sat me down, told me all about gold and what it could be that would cause this reaction. He then told me he could clean and buff my rings (for a very minimal charge) and see if that helped. My rings looked better after the cleaning and buffing than they had looked the day we bought them.
