It has been my goal to give piano students the opportunity to receive lessons in a studio/classroom type environment. Lessons in the home or the teacher's home can often be distracting and progress can be slow. It has been proven in fact that students who "attend" lessons will be more focused and take their job as a piano student more seriously. The bottom line is to patiently work towards progress. Piano lessons enhance many other skills such as pattern recognition, language skills, awareness of details, and memorization techniques. On an individual level, lessons provide motivation through exploration, competence and passion. Through re-enforcement, these qualities help build self-esteem. And then there is, of course, the love and shear joy that comes from playing or creating one's own music - a truly satisfying experience. Beginners to Advanced students are welcome to attend lessons at Souhegan Piano Instruction. I treat each student as individuals who excel in some areas and need improvement in others. This lends itself to a very satisfying experience for the student as they find that they are indeed improving and becoming fine musicians in their own rite. It has been my pleasure over the years to host our formal recitals outside of the studio. These outside venues allow the student the opportunity to perform in a formal setting. Students may invite as many family members and friends as they wish. We hold several piano playing parties at the studio which are for the "students only". These gatherings are casual and fun, with a great opportunity to perform under little pressure and socialize with other piano students. I attended the University of Lowell (now UMass Lowell) where I received my Bachelor of Music Degree with a concentration in Theory and Composition with Piano as my major instrument. My Bachelor's in Music qualifies me to be a member of the National Piano Teacher's Guild. As a member of the Guild my students are eligible to participate in the annual Guild Auditions. This is a nationally set criterion for playing and I would recommend students with a high degree of dedication and time to participate in these auditions. I work intently to see that the students receive the best possible instruction I can offer them --It is a pleasure to pass along the gift of music.
