For Art's Sake is a unique teaching studio that offers fine art classes exclusively in oil painting. While other methodologies dictate that students must graduate through training in other skills and mediums prior to working with oils, at For Art's Sake our philosophy is that all the required skills can be effectively taught as part of the process. Students learn basic to advanced techniques in drawing, composition, color harmony and mixing theories. Oils are a wonderfully flexible and forgiving medium for artists of any skill level to explore with unique potential for growth and advancement. For Art's Sake is a family owned and operated art studio founded by Michael Ward in 1963, originally named Michael Ward Studio. In 1987, Michael's grand-daughter, Celeste, who herself had been painting since age six, began her career in teaching art and managing the business along-side Michael. After eighteen years of working together, upon Michael's retirement, Celeste took over the family business in 2005 (as For Art's Sake) to continue the tradition started by her grandfather nearly five decades earlier. An accomplished commercial artist as well, Celeste is currently the owner and director of instruction at For Art's Sake, sharing her talents and expertise through oil painting classes offered to children, teens and adult. After twenty four years of teaching, Celeste prides herself on offering a warm, comfortable studio environment where every student's needs are met individually. Celeste has a sincere passion for teaching and truly enjoys that she can share the gift of art with students of all ages.
