Our History The founder/owner, Rosa Shaw, RN, opened the Port Richey campus in 2001 as the Institute of Technology (and later changed its name to American Health Institute – AHI), as a test preparation course site for Nursing Assistants and facilities for Continuing Education Credits for Nurses. The American Health Institute has been approved by The Commission for Independent Education since 2006. The institution has been approved by the Veterans Department (VA) since 2008. As of 2010, AHI has been approved for all programs by the US Department of Education for Title IV funding. In 2013, the institute added an additional 2,200 square feet of classroom and clinical space to further enhance student learning and experience. Our Mission American Health Institute‘s mission is to provide student-centered education in the health care field. The programs are designed to educate students to perform as safe and competent heath care providers, adaptable to a variety of settings. We strive to serve the educational needs and interests of the State of Florida. As a comprehensive community school, American Health Institute provides an accessible diverse learning environment rich with opportunities for students to attain academic success and cultural growth, to build and expand their knowledge and skills, and to develop both as individuals and as citizens of our community. We offer a variety of courses to fit your needs, including daytime, evening, and weekend schedules. Our Facility Our facility consists of over 3,000 square feet of classrooms, library, study rooms, and a clinical room; all for the student’s benefit. Nursing and Health Care students hone their skills through a variety of medical industry equipment used in hospitals and nursing homes country-wide. During a students education at our Institute, they are encouraged to develop their knowledge of medical competencies through the use of innovative web-based tools available in the multimedia library. Within, students will find a wide range of reference textbooks, computer access for online research, and extensive learning tools consisting of audio, video, and CD-DVD’s resources. Our students are encouraged to take full advantage of the learning tools in the multi-media library by attending the ‘after class hours’ to practice and refine their skills.
