In early 1998 Woody began telling his wife, Cindy, he would like to find a place where he could sell a little hemlock lumber on the side. In May 1998 he purchased a tract of land from W.W. Turner on the corner of State Route 57 and Maddox Pike, just outside of Flemingsburg. He then hired his step-son, Michael Hughes, to sell hemlock and treated lumber at that location. Before the first building was completed Michael sold lumber from a pick-up truck and Woody joined him each evening after finishing his work at By-Pass Mobile Homes. A few months later construction of a lumber shed with attached office was completed. The response to Woody's lumber venture was so overwhelming that in February of 1999 he decided to take the risk of working full-time in his own lumber and building supply business. The need for handling additional materials led to the need for a warehouse/showroom and more office space. The new building was ready for use in August of 1999. The first order of hardware related items was placed in May of 1999 from Wallace Hardware Co. An Additional lumber shed was soon required and it was completed in the spring of 2001. Woody's business quickly went from 2 employees selling a little hemlock to, on the side, to 20 employees selling a wide range of lumber and building products. To meet the continuing demand for additional types of materials, expansion has been an ongoing requirement.
