Penrith Farms

Penrith Farms has over thirty years experience in providing the direction, purpose, and hope that troubled and unmotivated young adults need in transitioning from adolescence to adulthood. We have helped 100’s of families since 1980 reconnect with their sons and daughters. Let us help your child overcome the challenges that have been pushing them away from the family and preventing them from being an adult. Penrith Farms is a working farm located in the state of Washington. It was created as a therapeutic environment for emerging and young adults to learn life skills and experience emotional growth. We engage troubled young adults, and help them transition into independent living and adulthood. Our approach differs from most programs in that we present our residents with real world challenges and teach them how to navigate the adult world successfully. We provide challenges and opportunities that will allow our residents to prove themselves and thereby build self-esteem pride, confidence, honesty, and self-control. A majority of our residents develop a distrust for therapists and traditional treatment facilities before they arrive at Penrith Farms. Counseling at Penrith Farms happens spontaneously in the moment as situations develop rather than a scheduled traditional sit-down therapy session after the fact. This practice helps residents develop self-awareness about their behavior and emotional states in the moment as they are happening. We provide opportunities for coaching, counseling, mentoring, and therapy to occur spontaneously thereby allowing residents to recognize their emotions and resolve their issues. Many of the young adults that are failing to launch are in need of this experience. Penrith Farms fosters trust and open communication between staff and residents. As we earn trust, we challenge residents to develop the skills necessary to transition into a positive and productive adulthood. The authentic connections we establish with residents will help them properly communicate, cooperate with others, and complete their commitments responsibly. We consistently challenge residents to express themselves appropriately, work as a team, embrace natural consequences, and socialize in a positive manner. Penrith Farms is a reflection of the challenges young adults will face as adults. All provided in a safe milieu where the ability to make mistakes is accepted but learning from them is expected. The relationships that are built at Penrith Farms end up being life long, and a majority of our former residents remain in contact with us and each other when the leave. These relationship skills will serve them throughout their lives. Counseling & Mentoring Clients at Penrith Farms have the opportunity to express their feelings & emotions in real-time with certified counselors on a daily basis. Our counselors act as a neutral party to help clients adjust & express themselves in a constructive manner in their new environment. Character & Work Ethic Part of being an adult and living independently is work, and the confidence and self-esteem that comes from working. Work is intimately integrated into our program as a means of providing young adults with the tools they need to succeed in life. Education Our clients have the opportunity to go to school whether that be high school or college while at Penrith Farms. In addition to traditional schooling, Clients will also be afforded the opportunity to take online courses and earn educational certificates from our computer lab. Life and Independence Skills Psychosocial and Emotional Intelligence skills are incorporated into our daily activities. Handling disappointment in a positive manner and the appropriate communication of needs in addition to the learning of practical skills is essential to successful transition into adulthood. While at Penrith Farms, young adults will have the opportunity to learn a wide array of psychosocial skills before they graduate. These skills give residents the
