The Rose Colored Glass is located in the Historic Victor Anderson Building in Stromsburg, Nebraska, featuring a wine tasting room along with space to rent for special events. The Victor Anderson building also contains a number of retail shopping spaces. Located around and adjacent to the Rose Colored Glass is The Townhouse, a popular home décor and gift shop, and Frocks and Flowers, a women’s clothing boutique and flower and garden shop. A central foyer connects all spaces in the building to provide a number of options for each visitor! When the Victor Anderson Building was originally opened in 1913, the 19,000 square foot building opened as a mortuary and furniture store. The building’s design was extravagant but also well ahead of its time in that it featured electrical lighting surrounding the top perimeter of the building. Unfortunately, once the furniture business went under the Victor Anderson building also began to deteriorate quickly leaving the rare and extraordinary lights to burn out and remain dark for over 80 years. When Bob Berggren, proprietor of the Rose Colored Glass, acquired the building, he took on the task of restoring it. Bob did much of the work himself having the building’s first floor restored and reopened within one year. In June of 2013, Bob took the unique lighting feature of the building and had it restored back to prime condition. On June 7 th , 2013 a special lighting ceremony was held to celebrate having the building illuminated back to its original design! One Hundred Years to the day , the lights were once again turned on while local residents celebrated with dancing in the streets! The building was and still is the only building of its kind in downtown Stromsburg. So stop by, visit the stores within the Victor Anderson building today, and admire the architectural masterpiece the building has become!
