About

A world-renowned symphony and ballet, gifted musicians from around the world, award-winning children’s performers…It’s all in your own backyard at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion this summer and fall. Free seating at all performing arts concerts makes experiencing the arts affordable for you and your family. Performances this summer and fall encompass classical music, Italian pop-opera, contemporary ballet, a Halloween symphony and an exciting Children’s Festival in November. First, Houston Ballet takes the stage Aug. 5 for a mixed-repertory program titled Contemporary Masters featuring three dynamic ballets by three of the top choreographers in the industry. The performance includes Jorma Elo’s “ONE/end/ONE,” Jiri Kylian’s “Falling Angels” and Christopher Wheeldon’s “Rush.” Then, it’s an evening of all things Italian Sept. 1 with the Houston Symphony and the fabulous “pop-opera” vocal trio straight from Vegas, Poperazzi. Hear iconic music from “The Godfather” and “Jersey Boys,” famous arias from “La Traviata” and “The Barber of Seville,” and of course, “Nessun Dorma.” On Sept. 15, the Houston Symphony returns to perform a program titled Brahms’ Violin Concerto featuring James Ehnes on violin. This classical concert also features Dvorak’s Symphony No. 6, all under the direction of Maestro Hans Graf. In October, daddies, mummies and little ghosts and goblins can dress up in their favorite Halloween costumes for The Pavilion’s annual Hocus Pocus Pops, a “spooktacular” Halloween concert full of chills and thrills. This imaginative blend of spine-tingling music and spirited fun will spook you into the season! Finally, the 16th Annual Children’s Festival erupts with family fun and award-winning children’s performers Nov. 12 and 13. Featured performers at this year’s festival include Thomas the Tank Engine, Justin Roberts and the Not Ready for Naptime Players, Mad Science’s STAR TREK LIVE and everyone’s favorite goofy garbage man, Richard Renner. Don’t miss the fun this November! Have a picnic on the hill or in your seat at any of these performing arts events. The Pavilion welcomes guests to bring picnics into the venue, but keep in mind that beverages cannot be brought in. Free lawn chairs also are available at all performing arts events, or bring a blanket, kick back and relax beneath the stars. For more information about performing arts events at The Pavilion, or a complete concert calendar, visit www.woodlandscenter.org. The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, a nonprofit regional performing arts venue, is located at 2005 Lake Robbins Drive in The Woodlands, Texas.
