K & A Greenhouse Where Inspiration Grows. All of the annuals and perennials we sell are grown locally, and in most cases without the use of any pesticides or insecticides. We do use beneficial insects to help deter pests and artificial fertilizers to inspire our plants to grow. K & A Greenhouse has been family owned and operated since its inception in 1986. In the last 20 years, the business has grown from a single greenhouse into the moderately budding business it is today. All of the annuals and perennials we sell are grown locally, and in most cases without the use of any pesticides/insecticides. Because we do use artificial fertilizers, we are not an organic greenhouse, but we strongly believe in selling plants that are not coated with pesticides/insecticides that may be harmful to: you, your children, your grandchildren, your pets, or any natural wildlife (that includes the squirrel that keeps tampering with your birdfeeder!). Does the quality or our plants suffer because of this... certainly not! We use beneficial insects to stop pests that may bother our plants and instead of controlling the spread of any plant disease we simply remove the infected plants. These measures insure that our employees and customers work and shop in a pest free environment. Annuals Annuals are plants that live only (in most cases) for one growing period in the Wisconsin climate. Although short lived, these plants usually bloom for an extended period of time, in many cases for several months and even for the whole summer. Annuals can be used in a variety of ways throughout your garden: to add summer long color to your perennial beds, in containers to brighten up your outside living space, or planted en mass for an extraordinary show! Perennials Perennials are plants that live for more than one growing season. In some cases they live for one cycle, which can be several years, but in other cases they will live as long as you want them to. It is more likely, however, that they will live as long as our pleasant Wisconsin winter will allow them to. All of the perennials we sell are intended for use in Dane county and the surrounding counties. Shrubs This year we will be carrying several varieties of flowering and unique shrubs to spice up your landscape. Shrubs can be a great foundation for any garden: they can quickly eliminate bare spots in the garden by filling up large areas with a single low-maintenance plant. Some shrubs, such as Smoke-bush (Cotinus), provide a brilliant and striking backdrop for annuals or perennials. Other shrubs, such as Spiraea, Azalea, or Weigela add bold color and form to the garden landscape. Herbs For years K & A Greenhouse has carried an extensive collection of Herbs and in 2010 the tradition continues! Any great chef will tell you that there is no substitute for fresh herbs, so if you have not tried fresh herbs in your salads, casseroles, sauces, and other dishes, this is the year to start. Cookin
