Classes are for Adult Men & Women 13 & over, our focus for this class is for Adults because I teach real life type self defense Our emphasis during classes will be on having fun while also getting in shape & learning a traditional style of Karate that originated in Okinawa. We will start with a warm up to improve flexibility, followed by technique training, sparring (fighting with hand & foot pads), forms & self defense with an adult defending yourself in real life focus. The classes will be great for exercise, losing weight, overall cardiovascular health & developing excellent Karate technique. Kempo Karate can be considered a mixed martial art in itself as it involves many different types of techniques. Equal emphasis is placed on the use of the hands & feet for striking. The use of elbows & knees is often practiced as well. In addition to striking techniques, Kempo also incorporates take-downs, throws, joint-locks & other maneuvers. One staple of Kempo is the use of the black gi (uniform). This gives Kempo practitioners a visual differentiation from other karate styles that mainly use the white gi. Kempo also involves the study and practice of Kempo forms or katas (literally: "form") which are detailed choreographed patterns of movements practiced either solo or in pairs. Kempo is characterized by rapid successions of techniques that are designed to overwhelm an opponent. Kempo's focus is on teaching to continually improve speed of technique which makes Kempo much more effective, as a means of defending yourself, than other styles of Karate The Master Instructor for the Kempo Karate Class holds a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Fudozen Shorinji Kempo Karate, including 10 years as a 3rd Degree Black Belt and Professional Kempo Karate Instructor, 20 years total training in Martial Arts, primarily in traditional Kempo Karate, but also in Judo, Self Defense & martial arts weapons. He has trained Police & Military in self defense, has placed 1st in several professional Martial Arts tournaments & attended seminars taught by famous martial artists. Instructor was formally trained in both Okinawa & the United States
