About

The Knitty Gritty Shop, located on our farm, carries products from our farm and other complementary offerings. We are a fifth-generation homestead farm, established in 1868 by German immigrants, who came to America to escape religious persecution. The original hand plow used to work the land now rests in a shed, along with other early horse-drawn implements. The farm is transitioning to organic production, much like the early days without pesticides and herbicides and GMO seeds, but with more modern machinery. Through the years, the farm has successfully contributed to the dairy, hog and chicken industries, as well as corn, soybean and hay crops. Today, the focus is our flock of sheep, organic produce and the crops to support those ventures, such as corn, hay and grains. To be a farmer today still requires faith, hard work, and optimism. We love our lifestyle and the unique opportunity we have to contribute to the health and happiness of our customers.
