About

The Daily Journal was formed in 1930 as the weekly Leadwood Press. In 1935, Noah Gehrig purchased the paper and moved it to Flat River where he re-named it The St. Francois County Journal. Now, it is the Daily Journal, published afternoons Monday through Friday with a weekend edition available Saturday morning. The Daily Journal, along with The Farmington Press and The Democrat News in Fredericktown are the portals that carry information and advertising to over two thirds of the residents of St. Francois County and beyond. With more than 10,000 daily unique visitors and over 1.7 million page views per month, our website is one of the most visited in southeastern Missouri. Combined with our household circulation of these three papers and we remain the number one choice for readers and advertisers in St. Francois County. Today the Daily Journal carries the same mission as set forth by Rev. Brumfield in that first edition of the Leadwood Press -- to be the primary supplier of local, national and international news to Southeast Missouri residents.
