Risch Heating and Air Conditioning: A Family Story Bill Risch started Risch Heating and AC in 1988. His decision to run his own business by age 40 was a long held dream. Raised on the family dairy farm in Merrillan, WI, and graduating from Alma Center Lincoln in 1966, Bill worked at Chrysler in Belvidere until drafted by the Army. His 1969-1970 Army years included a tour in Vietnam. After discharge, Bill worked nights and weekends at K-Mart in Eau Claire to complete his UW-Eau Claire degree in Mathematics and Computers in 1975. From college, he learned heating and air conditioning with Koxlien Heating in Whitehall. Bill held jobs in accounting and budgeting with the Whitehall Cenex, in management of the Tomah Cenex, and finally in sales and service as a home comfort rep with Cenex in Minneapolis before he returned to heating and air conditioning at the West Salem Co-op. Combining his years of farming, heating and cooling, business management and accounting, Bill felt ready to go on his own. With faith in his abilityto work with people, his common sense and farm work ethic, Bill launched his own business in April 1988. Bill's has been a family's story from the family farm, which he still owns, to the family business, which he still runs. Married to Mary (Beaman) since 1969, Bill has three sons and three grand-children. Since 1988 Bill has trained many techs, including all three sons, the skills of the trade from bending metal to hanging runs to wiring thermostats to planning zones to designing in-ground systems to laying in-floor tubes to - the list grows. Most importantly, all three sons grew up learning the gift of mechanical ability and the value of hands-on experience, customer service, and pride in a job well done. Today, eldest son Adrian still works with Bill in the family business. Brandon works for the City of Bangor in the water department and Colin works for Sprint. Mary has retired after 38 years of teaching high school and is an adjunct English instructor at Viterbo University. Risch Heating and Air Conditioning remains the story of a family that works hard to serve our customers.
