If you want pretentious expensive but first rate Italian food, go to Lidia Bastianich's Felidia just 7 blocks uptown and spend $200 a couple. If you want a family owned neighborhood restaurant that wants to be the best that it is, try Mimi's. All food is freshly made, nothing frozen, canned or bought from Sysco distribution. Many staff have been there for decades, owned and operated by same family for close to 40 years. Some Hungarian influenced dishes. Food is simple and delicious and all homemade.
