We first had Ivan, the second generation, do some work for me and my late husband, over 27 years ago on the house we purchased, back when we first moved to Iowa City. I remember the story he told of his father John, whom was the first painter to purchase paint from Gilpin Paint. If I remember correctly, he had actually bought the first paint off of Gilpin's back porch of Gilpin's home. Of course, Gilpin had a couple of different paint stores in Iowa City up until a couple years ago. Ivan, as well as his son Steve, whom I believe took over the business about 15 years ago
