MMI Preparatory School in Freeland, easily accessible from Hazleton and Wilkes-Barre, is an independent, non-sectarian, co-educational college prep day school for students in grades 6-12. Founded in 1879 as the Industrial School for Miners and Mechanics, MMI emphasizes academics, activities, athletics, character and service, believing that development of those pillars will serve students during school and long after graduation. MMI focuses on individual attention through small class sizes, with a student-teacher ratio of 9:1. The challenging curriculum is presented by knowledgeable, caring teachers dedicated to student success. MMI lays a foundation for students to gain acceptance to top colleges and universities in the country, often with generous scholarship awards.
