Beanstalk’s heritage: B.J. Jordan Child Care Programs, Inc. (dba Beanstalk) is a successful private, non-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation that has been thriving in the Sacramento area since 1973, serving children and their families. Mission: Beanstalk’s mission is to provide children and families with enriching research-based early education, care, and nutrition programs in centers and family child care homes that are safe, affordable, and culturally sensitive, supported by community partnerships and coordinated services. Our Programs: Beanstalk’s Family Child Care Home Education Network offers Free or Low Fee child care for 0 to 12 year olds with flexible hours in 75 Day Care Homes located throughout the greater Sacramento area. Our 8 Free preschools (13 am/pm sessions) are co-located on public elementary school campuses. Families must meet the need and income eligibility requirements. We also oversee several hundred licensed independent home-based childcare providers, who participate in the USDA Child Care Food Program, providing nutritious meals to thousands of children in family home settings. We have earned our reputation as a high-quality program, where parents can feel safe knowing their children in our centers and homes will learn, grow, explore, make friends, and have fun! Many of our parents today were themselves in Beanstalk programs years ago. Funding: In keeping with Beanstalk’s focus on service to the community, more than 80% of the children in Beanstalk's programs come from economically disadvantaged households. As a result, most of our income stream comes through federal and state programs supporting this community. Additional support for our programs comes from private grants and family-paid tuition (on a graduated scale based on income; free for many families).
