Kenney was born in Rochester, New York, and grew up in Ohio, New York and North Carolina. In 1976, he entered the University of Miami where he was one of the only ten University Scholars. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Chemistry in 1980. He then began dental school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1980, and earned his D.D.S. degree in 1984, graduating in the top of his class. He was one of only two candidates accepted into the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at VCU/MCV in 1984. Dr. Kenney completed his four year residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at VCU/MCV in 1988, and has been in Newport News in private practice of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery ever since. Dr. Kenney is a licensed dentist and is registered and licensed to practice as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon in the commonwealth of Virginia. He has been certified as a diplomate by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery since 1990. Dr. Kenney is a member and fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and is a member of the Virginia Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Virginia Dental Association, and the Peninsula Dental Society. He has served in many professional positions with these organizations, and is a past-president of the Peninsula Dental Society. Dr. Kenney is a fellow of the American College o Dentistry, and is a fellow of the international College of Dentistry as well.
