Diles Hearing Center was initially established in 1949 and began operations in Athens in 1960. William "Bill" Diles and his wife, Mary, tell of dispensing hearing devices at 100 Morris Avenue here in Athens. As their business grew, they moved to West Union Street to more easily serve the residents of the area. In the mid-1970's, Diane McVey, audiologist and now President/Owner of Diles Hearing Center, went to work for Bill Diles. During the early 1980's, Bill looked toward retirement and plans were put in place for Diane to purchase the business. In 1994, Diane's husband, Craig Johnson, built their current location at 275 West Union Street. Today, Diles Hearing Center continues with the original slogan of "Helping People Hear since 1949." Diane McVey and her staff of licensed audiologists and hearing instrument specialists pride themselves on providing quality, state- of-the-art hearing device technology and comprehensive, professional hearing healthcare while upholding Bill's belief of treating people fairly and courteously. Diles Hearing Center, and/or staff, maintains membership with American Hearing Aid Associates (AHAA); Ohio Speech, Language, and Hearing Loss Association; American Speech and Hearing Association; and the American Academy of Audiology to name a few. In addition, our staff attends trainings offered by the various manufacturers we work with to keep current on technology changes. On a community level, Diles Hearing Center participates in health fairs, conducts educational seminars, and is available for group presentations regarding hearing conservation, hearing loss, and related topics of interest. Similarly, we support many local organizations throughout the year, such as Stuart's Opera House, Putt People First, Rotary, Athens High School Football, OU Athletics, American Red Cross, Athens Dog Shelter, the Southern Ohio Copperheads, and many more.
