Ascension Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America serving the Paradise Valley, Scottsdale, and Phoenix areas. The church is situated on six acres of flat desert land at the base of Mummy Mountain, featuring a pentagonal shaped sanctuary, topped with a spire rising 140 feet in the sky. Designed to suit the needs of a growing congregation, the overall future plan includes a Sunday School wing which curves from the sanctuary, with provision for classrooms, offices, choir practice room, and a social meeting hall. The Nave is flanked on three sides by balconies for the choir, pipe organ, and overflow audiences, and rises to a height of 54 feet to the ceiling pentagon skylight, which acts as the base to the exterior spire. The Ascension sanctuary and facility is significantly influenced by the organic architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright and Taliesin West. Mr. Wright’s son-in-law, Wesley Peters, the architect of record, incorporated the pentagon into the design of the building both internally and externally. You are welcome to attend our "Book of Faith" Bible Study Thursday mornings at 9:30 downstairs. Several Men's and Women's groups meet regularly for luncheons. Ascension offers an excellent Preschool for pre-Kindergarten children ages 3-5 from 9:00 am to noon on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The emphasis of the preschool is on learning through the use of learning centers. In these centers children engage in numerous and varied learning experiences or activities. Each class has quiet time, outside discovery, snack time, structured class time and learning centers. Bible stories, songs and games are incorporated into the preschool study units. The Preschool is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Education Association. During the school year, Ascension Lutheran Church offers a Rotational Sunday School program, which is designed to teach major Bible stories and concepts through kid-friendly stations like Art, Drama, Music, Games, Cooking, Science, Storytelling, Movies, and many other educational medias. Rotational Sunday School is a creative way to get children excited to learn about Jesus. Parents guide children to our Sunday school gathering time at 9:45 am on Sunday mornings. Here parents can sing, talk, play and mingle with their children until 10:00 am. Then parents will continue on to Worship. From 10:00 am to 10:30 am children creatively experience and learn stories of the bible. At 10:30 am children join their parents in worship for communion. Intimacy With Jesus Church is focused on teaching God's word to all and to further encourage them to do the works of Jesus Christ. It is our firm belief that all of God's children need to come forward and be part of God's army: healing the sick, comforting the broken hearted, and sharing God's hope and promises through His word. We believe that as people receive comfort, healing and nurturing that they too, will want to go forth and comfort others also with the same Love that they have received. We believe that nothing is impossible to our God and that through the power of the son, Jesus Christ, all bondages and addictions can be broken and that He can give any person a full and renewed life. We pray for one another through all of life's trials and this love and support makes a great protection over all of us at Intimacy With Jesus Church. We also pray for all who come to us with need of physical and emotional healing, whether they belong to our church or not. Freely we have received and freely we give. But we cannot understand why everyone would not want to be part of Intimacy With Jesus Church!!!
