De-spec is an award-winning, internationally-recognized, multi-disciplinary design practice with a focus on the relation of space and it’s occupant, developing spatial typologies for an architecture that is experienced inside and out. The name de-spec itself is a derivative of de-speculative. The act of de-speculating is applied to most projects as a form of ‘de-construction’ of site and program in search of content and experience. Located in the heart of the Chelsea Arts District of New York City, de-spec was founded in 2002 by Farnaz Mansuri. The studio is comprised of a small team of international staff who have lived and worked in Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. The creative team includes four architects and designers, a design librarian and a graphic designer along with a supporting team of freelancers for model making, 3D computerized rendering and IT services. Examples of de-spec’s recent design projects include: Xocolatti (172 Prince St. NY, NY 10012) Banchet Flowers (447 W 16th St. NY, NY 10011) Amelia Toro ( 229 10th avenue, NY 10001)
