Prior Environmental Services is an Accredited EPA RRP Training Provider If you do Renovations, Repairs, or Painting on properties built before 1978, you must be RRP Lead-Safe Certified by an accredited EPA RRP Training firm such as Prior Environmental Training Services. Why is the RRP Rule important? When lead-based paint is present, renovation work such as sanding, sawing, and demolition can create hazardous lead dust. Lead dust can poison you, your workers, your family, homeowners, and neighbors. Even pets. Lead poisoning causes kidney disease, high blood pressure, learning disabilities, miscarriages, and birth defects. Children and pregnant women are especially vulnerable. Any lead exposure is bad for you. There is no safe level. The EPA requires changes in work practices to minimize and contain lead-dust exposure. These lead-safe practices make the job safer and reduce your liability. The law requires you to become RRP Lead-Safe Certified and renew your certification before it expires. Two New England states have their own version of the EPA certification: Massachusetts and Rhode Island. If you don’t take the 4-hour Refresher Course before the expiration, you’ll have to retake the 8-hour Initial Course to be certified again.
