The (N.F.P.A) recommends that all chimneys be cleaned or inspected at least once a year for safety reasons. Blocked furnace flue is usually among the top causes of carbon monoxide poisoning. The chimneys that use wood as fuel leave deposits that can interfere with the flow of air, and they are flammable and can cause hazardous fires if the deposits ignite in the chimney.
