The Jay Heritage Center (JHC) is a non-profit community organization dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of John Jay's 23 acre family estate in Rye. The childhood home of this American patriot is a national historic landmark, as well as a New York State and Westchester County park. JHC currently hosts programs and performances in American history, architecture, social justice and environmental stewardship in two of its buildings, the 1838 Peter Augustus Jay House which is the only Greek revival building in the Hudson River Valley open to the public and the 1907 Van Norden Carriage House which accommodates groups of 150 students or visitors amphitheatre style. This cultural destination is one of only 13 on Westchester County's African American Heritage Trail created in 2004 and more recently was added to NY State's Path Through History in 2013 as an important heritage tourism destination. Due to its historic significance and in recognition of its green management practices, it was unanimously awarded a prestigious place on the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area list in January 2009.
