Mirch Masala; The trendy neighborhood of Greenwich Village in Manhattan recently welcomed their newest neighbor, Indian restaurant Mirch Masala. Mirch, which means chillies, and masala, meaning spice mix are combined to serve a flavorsome ‘Mirch Masala’. The restaurant specializes in serving popular Indian food as well as a large array of traditional and regional Indian dishes. Executive Chef Gopal Singh mastered the art of Indian cuisine before moving to the U.S. in 1990. He has worked in some of the best restaurants in the New York City area with over 30 years. Gopalji is an acclaimed chef and specializes in traditional Indian food. Known for his meticulous spice roasts and grinds, Gopalji makes all the spice mixtures (masalas) in-house, taking the food at Mirch Masala to another level of authenticity. Some of Mirch Masala's most popular dishes include ‘Dosa Specials’ – a very popular south Indian snack made with Lentil & Rice crisp with choice of filling served with coconut chutney & Sambar ; a wholesome snack; Dal Makhni - black lentils slow cooked with tomatoes, ginger, garlic, spices and tempered with cumin seeds; Bombay Fish Masala - fillets of seasonal fresh fish, simmered in a tangy sauce of coconut, ginger, garlic and spices and Tandoori Chicken - an all-time favorite Tandoori preparation; chicken on the bone in a marinade of ginger and garlic, strained yogurt, Kashmiri red chilies and Tellicherry peppercorns.
