UAB Eye Care is the clinical operation for the UAB School of Optometry, an integral part of the UAB Medical Center. The state-of-the-art clinic is located on the ground floor in the Henry Peters Building at 1716 University Boulevard, next door to the Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences. It is a multidisciplinary clinic with both optometrists and ophthalmologists providing eye care in a number of subspecialties. The clinic is comprised of 34,000 square feet of space with all of the modern equipment needed to accurately diagnose and treat most eye problems. Comprehensive eye exams for adults are provided in the Primary Eye Care Service, while exams for infants and children are provided in the Pediatric Optometry Service. Are you interested in Contact Lenses? The Cornea and Contact Lenses Service can help you determine if hard lenses (RGP’s), soft lenses (daily and extended wear) and hybrid lenses such as Synergeyes, a blend of soft and hard lenses, will work for you. What about age or disease related eye problems? Glaucoma and Diabetic Eye Disease can be treated, if found early enough. The Ocular Disease and Low Vision Service can evaluate your needs and make recommendations that are specific for you! There are ophthalmologists specializing in cataracts, general ophthalmology and retina if there is a need for a surgical recommendation and/or intervention. There is a beautiful Optical Service with over 1400 different eyeglass frames on display from various fashionable eye wear designers such as Nautica, Coach, Juicy Couture, Nike, Disney for Kids, and Jhane Barnes. We also provide quality ophthalmic lenses, from companies such as Varilux, Hoya, and Zeiss. UAB Eye Care offers the very finest eye and vision care available. Our faculty is nationally (and internationally) known for their expertise in the field of Optometry. Many have written the book (literally) when it comes to eye care! Some of our patients have individual challenges when it comes to their health/vision care. For these patients, our Community Eye Care service is just what the doctor ordered! Eye clinics are held weekly at various health department locations around Jefferson County. There are also vision screenings that are scheduled at various health fairs, employee benefit fairs, schools, and other events.
