Weight training increases muscle tone which in turn increases resting metabolism. If you increase your muscle tone by just 5 pounds you will increase your resting metabolism by approximately 200 calories per day, 1400 calories per week. You will also burn approximately 200 calories during your weight training work out, 3 of those per week give you and additional 600 burned calories per week.
