Teaching, Serving, Reaching and Sharing Christ. Wee Disciples Preschool was founded in 1997 as a response to Christ's command to "Go and make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:20). Our school serves, supports, and reaches out to our church and community with the love of Jesus to bring children and families into a relationship with our Lord. Our purpose is to provide a quality, Christ-centered program in which the love of Jesus is experienced in many ways. Goals and Objectives Our curriculum is based on the Illinois Early Learning Standards and our religion/Bible program. We work on developing skills in: Spiritual Development (i.e., understands that God loves and cares for him/her, as He loves and cares for everyone; believes that Jesus is his/her friend; gives and receives love and forgiveness; joins in talking to God in prayer and singing praise to Him). Pre Kindergarten Thru 5th Grade. Canaan Academy is a private school in Urbana, Illinois under the auspices of Canaan Development Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. The Foundation supports children primarily through its education program. Canaan Academy presently serves students in grades pre-kindergarten through five from the Champaign-Urbana community and surrounding areas of Central Illinois. Each classroom is staffed by one male and one female teacher to ensure that every student is exposed to positive influences of both genders. In addition, Canaan Academy uses a collegial model, which requires equal participation of home, community, and the Academy in the education process. In addition to core subjects, Canaan‚s curriculum combines multiculturalism, daily Bible instruction, and philosophical investigations that seek to foster inner discipline, social skills, and critical thinking. To ensure that no child is left behind, Canaan Academy desires to provide educational opportunities for at-risk children and children from needy families.
