We offer EPA RRP training and lead certification. Do I need to be certified? The RRP rule affects paid contractors who work in pre-1978 housing and child-occupied facilities which include the following: * Renovation contractors * Maintenance workers in multifamily housing * Painters, plumbers and most specialty trades The RRP rule covers a lot of jobs: renovation, remodeling, painting, window replacement, plumbing, electrical work, heating and air-conditioning, demolition and work performed by trades like carpenters, electricians and handymen. The rule also applies to persons working for rental property owners, schools and day care providers too. It also applies to non-profits and governmental agencies. What if I don't get certified? Violations are punishable by a civil penalty of up to $37,500 per day for each violation. Knowing or willful violations can lead to the imposition of criminal fines and imprisonment for up to 1 year for each violation. Moreover, many states have their own version of the RRP Law, so a violation of the RRP Law means you are also violating that state’s own environmental law governing lead paint. Leadsafe New Mexico, LLC is an approved training partner of the National Center for Healthy Housing (NCHH) and teaches the lead renovator classes under NCHH's EPA accreditation.
