Based on written records in our files, we purchased the yard and mill in Normal in June of 1929. The first manager who ran this yard for us was R.G. Miller. The first lumber yard was destroyed by fire in 1980 and another location was used while a new building was being built. Both stores remained opened until 1990 when they combined at 301 W. Northtown Road. We purchased Hundman Lumber in 2012 and combined our locations at our present site in Bloomington . The Normal Yard started out serving farmers and contractors but has grown substantially to now include do-it-yourself customers.

The Whitacre Family has reacquired Whitacre’s Furniture. As some of you know, we began operating the store out of an old ice house and converted corn crib in 1992. Over the next 13 years, thanks to our loyal customers, our store increased in size to over 40,000 square foot of showroom, shop and warehouse space. In 2005 we sold our store, which at that time we called Whitacre’s Country Oak Shoppe, to a group of local businessmen. A few weeks ago we were informed by these individuals that they were no longer interested in continuing the business. We were left with the options of moving back into the business, finding another buyer or simply closing the shop and selling the buildings. We choose to go back into the business. As we visit with past customers, our Amish vendors and our employees, we have become excited about the opportunity to again provide Central Illinois with high quality, affordable, hardwood furniture built in America. Over the next few weeks we will be working with the previous owners to liquidate their inventory. These price markdowns will give you an excellent opportunity to purchase quality furniture at very reasonable prices. Our family invites you to stop in to the store, renew old acquaintances, have a cup of coffee and see our large selection of Amish made furniture. Sincerely, Rick, Gwyn, Chuck & Helen
