Dr. David Farberow graduated from Illinois College of Optometry in 1980, and Dr. Curtis Simmons graduated from UC Berkeley in 1982. Both Dr. Farberow and Simmons had solo practices for the earlier years of their careers, and in 1995, they opened Plaza Lane Optometry in downtown Santa Cruz, on Pacific Avenue. Both Drs. have served as president of the Monterey Bay Optometric Society, both Drs. give back to the community in many ways, Dr. Farberow promoted vision care both through his Lions Club, and also throught the Vista Center, which provides eyecare for the less fortunate. He has been president of both of these organizations. Dr Simmons is a past president of the Santa Cruz Kiwanis Club and spent ten years on the Board of Directors of Shakespeare Santa Cruz. He is an active member of First Congregational Church of Santa Cruz, and has volunteered at the local jail for a number of years providing comfort and compassion, and hope to inmates. Both Dr Farberow and Simmons believe that the best way to continue to grow their practice is by providing the best possible care, along with the most current technologies. The Laser Eye Center of Silicon Valley is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art vision correction procedures in a professional, caring and efficient manner. Total patient satisfaction with regard to every step of the process, from first call to last postoperative visit, is our ultimate goal. Dr. Kawesch opened his refractive surgery practice in Northern California in 1992. His original clinic was a small facility in Santa Clara. In 1994, he opened an office in Oakland, and relocated this to Danville a year later. In the "early years" the procedures performed were radial keratotomy (RK), astigmatic keratotomy (AK), and automated lamellar keratoplasty (ALK, a precursor to LASIK). Dr. Kawesch opened the first excimer laser center for LASIK and PRK in the South Bay, in early 1996, with a facility on Winchester Boulevard in San Jose. By 1999, his practice had grown to the point that larger centers were needed, so he moved his South Bay location to its current site, a 13,000 square foot state-of-the-art center on Saratoga Avenue. Simultaneously, he moved the Danville location to a larger 5,500 square foot facility in Pleasanton.
